About 3 days into this new diet, I looked at M. and told him, “I may have to eat that newspaper.” He looked at me rather suspiciously but with a glint of hope in his eyes, and said, “I didn’t say anything because I thought you were so into it.”
Despite eating mountains of eggs, cheese, and veggies for lunch, M. would be dying of starvation within 2 hours. Considering that I can’t eat mountains of anything, I was pretty much feeling the same way. Of course, in my warped mind, this means it was working because our bodies could quickly burn up the fuel. Right? Makes sense, right? So, I still have faith in it, but it’s the timing that’s killing me.
I didn’t realize how often I ate in a day. Since I can’t hold much food at any one time, I graze like a lazy cow. Pick a little here and a little there. I guess I’ll never be back to my 2 meals a day. I believe in the principles of the diet, but I had to modify the practice. Since our admissions, M. has gone back to his usual diet sans the processed meat and with more veggies. And I am still on the diet, but I’m waiting until about 30 minutes after I’m ravenously hungry to eat again. That way I’m eating more veggies, in smaller amounts, and I’m eating more often. I think for the most part I’m just going to have to stay pretty much on the Atkins side and then when I need that carb fix I’ll spend a day on the Somersized carb side (veggies, good carbs, and no fat or meat/cheese)
Ok, so it’s not just the timing. I also didn’t realize how much eating lots of vegetables would affect me. If I get the “vapors”, I tend to puke. Because most of my stomach is floating somewhere at the bottom of my belly and a fair section of my intestines are doing the same, gas seems to have a hard time finding its way out. It just rolls around like the worst gas a “normie” may ever experience. Thanks to the abundance of vegetables and fruit on this diet, I spent much of my time trying to lie flat and rubbing my tummy like you would a colicky baby. Certain veggies bother me less, like carrots and cucumbers, and I’m just going to go with eating half a small cucumber with a little sour cream-based dip for lunch. Give me an hour and I can probably get the whole thing down.
Oh well, at least I’m exercising! A couple of weeks ago, I started taking Pascal for longer walks and doing a Ministry of Silly Walks thing while I was at it. Between goose-stepping, exaggerated marching (knees almost up to my chest like an abdominal workout), walking backwards, and shadow boxing while Pas poops, I’m getting pretty toned under all this flab. I’ve got a lot more energy…which sucks when you’ve got nothing to do.
The dreaded class dies this week! Ha! I’m positively drooling over the survey that we get at the end of each class. My critique will be fair but tough. I’ll try not to call the professor a doody head. I swear!

Wow good for you doing anything. Ive given up all dieting but I still go to the gym mostly for a little peace and quiet

Way to go on the exercise. I need to be doing that too, but I sort of lack any real drive to do it.

All I have to add is that I love your title. Sounds like a horror film.

I guess I never realized you had GB. I had it like 3 years ago and I lost close to 200 pound. I never lost all I wanted to. I never went below a size 18 (however, I started out at 36/38 and well about 400 pounds). Anyway, I have gained about 30 pounds back. I am still an 18/20 and I fine about it. I am happier than when I was at my lowest.
Ok….That being said, I TOTALLY get the grazing stuff. I could eat all day long – maybe just a bite here and there, but if I go slow, I could eat Michael Phelps diet.
My downfall is not so much food or exercise. My down fall is alcohol. EMPTY calories, but I do it anyway.
Good luck with the diet.

Arrgh! Where’d my comment go? I swear I put one here. I musta left the page before it was done submitting again. Sheesh. **whacks self in forehead**.
I wanted to say that I am proud of you for all your hard work. The exercise is definitely not going to hurt and it may actually help with the “vapors!” I bet Pascal loves the longer walks with you!

It may be that you suffer from low blood sugar, so you would need to eat a little snack every few hours. I would go for something low carb, but filling (whatever it is you like that meets that need). Not all plans work the same for every one! Good for you getting in the exercise and making healthier choices!

I feel your pain. (Ok, not literally ALL your apparent pain, but you get the point.) The only thing that ever really works for me is lots of lean protein and grazing a bit every couple of hours. Good for you on the exersize thing…I put an elliptical IN FRONT of the flippin’ TV and I still won’t get on the thing.

Ugh…diets. I thought I’d find Weight Watchers hard, but I gotta say … it’s been great. Been going 4 weeks now and lost 10 lbs. To top it off, I’m never hungry. I’m actually amazed at how much I can eat. I even went to McDonald’s the other day, just worked it into my points.

Suzie- I can’t do the gym. I know some people love it (my sister for one). I just find it boring.
Ron- Doesn’t your puppy insist? Pascal would bug me to death.
Ginger- You know very well that I view my entire life as a movie. That best supporting actress Oscar is yours!
Karen- We were the same size! I’m only down to a 24 now (which was my goal pre-gb! I never expected miracles), but if some of this excess skin were gone, I’d be tiny…well I hope. lol I literally never weigh myself. I’m probably in denial. It was very frustrating for people after my surgery because I couldn’t say exactly how much I had lost. I’ve never checked my weight (pre or post gb). I’m just struggling to eat the way I did pre-gb (lots of veggies…I was a healthy fatty…now I’m just a fatty). If this doesn’t work, I’m thinking of going vegan.
Teeni- I’m not sure if Pas likes it by the end. I guess smaller dogs get tired faster.
ETW- I definitely tend to be hypoglycemic. I’m always trying to balance my blood sugar. I’ve come to believe that some obese ppl may be doing the same.
Laura- I put an exercise machine in front of the tv once. We did use it more, but it was so ugly and depressing standing there with it’s smug “you should be working out” look. Ok, so I’m a little paranoid.
Drowsey- I know I like the WW veggie lasagna. I tried it when Mom was in the hospital and I was desperate for something that wasn’t deep fried.
Slyde- I can’t seem to find any info on SB online. I found a few recipes on Recipezaar, but they look like Somersize stuff. If you know a site, slip it to me!

I am actually doing a low carb diet to lose my baby weight. I do find I need to be creative at breakfast as I get sick of eggs pretty quickly.
